Headlight Project

Founded in memory of Russ Devereux, the Headlight Project aims to reduce the number of deaths by suicide in the Tees Valley area through therapy of those bereaved by suicide and preventative education and training.

We offer free counselling and trauma therapy to adults and children as well as group therapy to adults within our service to help support through the trauma of losing a loved one to suicide.

Please note - Headlight Project is not a crisis service, nor can we accept referrals for individuals open to secondary care mental health services.

We are a registered charity set up to help improve the lives of those who have suffered brain injuries in the County Durham area.

Headway Darlington and District

Headway Darlington & District is a branch of Headway, the brain injury association, a UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury. We were established in June 2013 and opted to register for independent charitable status with the charities commission late 2014.

Our vision is: “Rebuilding lives after brain injury”. We aim to become the service of choice in the Darlington & District area for providing continued support to individuals and families affected by brain injury.

Headway Tyneside is affiliated to Headway UK – the national brain injury association. We provide support to survivors of brain injury, their families and carers.

Headway Tyneside employ a community development officer and a clinical services development manager who work with people affected by brain injury to develop services and to raise awareness of brain injury throughout the community.

Healthwatch Darlington Ltd

Healthwatch Darlington is your local independent health and social care champion. If you use GPs and hospitals, dentists, pharmacies, care homes or other support services, we want to hear about your experiences. As an independent organisation delivering statutory duties, we have the power to make sure NHS leaders and other decision makers listen to your feedback and improve standards of care.

We use your feedback to better understand the challenges facing the NHS and other care providers locally to make sure your experiences improve health and care services for everyone. We can also help you to get the information you need to make the right decisions for you and to get the support you deserve.

It’s really important that you share your experiences – whether good or bad, happy or sad. If you’ve had a negative experience, it’s easy to think there’s no point in complaining, and that ‘nothing ever changes’. Or, if you’ve had a great experience, that you ‘wish you could say thank you’. Remember, your feedback is helping to improve people’s lives. Healthwatch was launched in England on April 1 2013 to give users of health and social care services a powerful voice – both locally and nationally. Healthwatch South Tyneside is your dedicated consumer champion, working with users of local NHS and social care services to hear about your experiences, identify any issues or problems and help generate improvements.

Healthworks Newcastle

Set up in 1996 through a partnership of Newcastle University, Newcastle Primary Care Trust, Newcastle City Council and local residents, HealthWORKS was designed to engage people living in areas of low income in the management of their own health, with the objective of reducing health inequalities and promoting better health. We work to the wider determinants of health, and co-design pyscho-social approaches to improving health, alongside the clinical model. We engage and empower local people in a range of programmes which have many particular outcomes but which overall contribute to improved health literacy. We use a community development approach across all areas of our work which include: food skills, community learning, physical activity, breastfeeding peer support, Community Health Trainers, Early Years, social prescribing and volunteering. In 2014 Professor Sir Michael Marmot, a world leader on health inequalities, became our Patron. We work across his life-course model and focus on prevention and early intervention.
