Gateshead Older People's Assembly

Gateshead Older People's Assembly supports over 50s in maintaining their health and independence via opportunities to socialise, exercise, and learn.

In addition to delivering activities from our base in Deckham, we support the set up and delivery of classes in community venues all across Gateshead.

Gateshead Youth Council

Gateshead Youth Council (GYC) has been around since 1979. We are youth centred, youth focused and youth led. We work with young people aged 11-18 (and sometimes their families) and carry a broad remit which is reflected in the diverse range of youth issues and activities that we are involved in on a local, regional, national and international basis. We are a registered Charity with a voluntary Board of Trustees and Chairperson. Our Board is made up of a range of professionals and people who have been part of GYC projects in the past. Half of the Board are under the age of 30. We also have representatives from our groups on the Board.

We think Young People are given a rough ride and frankly don’t deserve it. Young People are amazing individuals who, with support, encouragement and opportunity, can achieve great things. The skills Young People develop while working on their projects are the soft skills that employers often seek, the everyday things we often take for granted but aren’t part of a school curriculum.

At GYC we develop projects and services in partnership with Young People, such as World Artists, Peace of GYC and Gateshead Youth Assembly, and we involve ourselves in issues concerning Young People. Our aim is to be a channel for Young People to express views and opinions collectively to Local Authorities or Government on issues concerning them. We also encourage those working with young people to develop skills, share resources and broaden experience to assist their community and organisation. GYC is an organisation which responds directly to the issues of organisations and young people in order to fulfil their needs. We also work with families where this facilitates further work with young people.

We do this by giving Young People the opportunities and support needed to design, deliver and evaluate their own projects and ideas, whether large or small. Every project at GYC is delivered as a partnership between adults and Young People, with Young People having an equal role. We provide training and expertise, allowing Young People to learn, develop and then disseminate this to other Young People, most of our training is written and delivered by Young People who have already been through the GYC process. We support Gateshead Youth Assembly to research, design and deliver their own Social Action projects. We work with Asylum Seekers and Refugees settling in Gateshead by supporting parents to develop their language skills and engaging with the young people to develop their own projects.

Gateway into the Community

The aim of Gateway into the Community is to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities who live in West Northumberland. Our members and their needs and wishes are central to the organisation: they are the driving force behind everything we do. We promote a community which improves the lives of people with learning disabilities through participation in a range of inclusive social, leisure and learning opportunities. Everyone deserves to reach their potential.

Gaunless Gateway Big Local

​​The Gaunless Gateway Big Local Partnership is a resident led proactive organisation in South-West Bishop Auckland, representing the communities of Cockton Hill, Henknowle, Woodhouse Close/Tindale Crescent, St Helens Auckland and West Auckland, some of the most deprived wards in County Durham. It came together to identify the needs and aspirations of these local communities and to agree how best to use the £1 million Big Local fund available.

The Partnership’s objectives are to manage the ten year programme to meet the area’s long term vision and outcomes to make a positive and lasting difference to the communities of South West Bishop Auckland.

Glow: Newcastle Cultural Education Partnership is a new independent charity growing out of the Newcastle LCEP. We support children and young people in Newcastle to develop and celebrate their creativity, to build their social confidence and to make their voices heard across our city and beyond.

We forge partnerships between individual artists and practitioners, cultural, creative organisations and schools across Newcastle upon Tyne.

GoTrak

GoTrak is a registered charity whose purpose is to promote community participation in healthy recreation for the public benefit by making public pathways for cycling, walking and recreational use. We aim to do this by developing Britain’s disused railway lines as traffic-free trails.

Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group is a registered charity supporting cancer patients and their families across County Durham and Darlington. We provide free services including patient transport to hospital appointments, financial and benefits advice, respite breaks, social outings and monthly support meetings. Our aim is to reduce isolation, ease financial pressures and improve wellbeing during and after treatment
