Darlington Association on Disability was established in 1986 as a voluntary and charitable organisation led by disabled people. It exists to promote independence and choice, and supports disabled people and carers through the provision of services, support and information and by tackling issues locally and nationally. DAD promotes the social model of disability, and as part of that remit is actively involved in promoting disability equality and awareness of anti discrimination legislation.
DAD acts as a focal point for consultation with disabled people and carers. It also manages a range of services / projects to support its aims.

Durham Branch, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is an inland fundraising branch which successfully raises money in the County Durham, Washington and Newcastle areas, to help the RNLI save lives at sea with their Lifeboats, Lifeguards and Flood Rescue teams.

daNE's mission is to dramatically raise deaf awareness amongst the general public and communities by bringing together deaf and hearing people in social, working and learning environments. We also create and deliver learning programmes, provide research and create opportunities which facilitate good communications and interactions between hearing and deaf people. Using all forms of media, we create a positive image of the contribution that deaf people make to the wellbeing and prosperity of their local and wider communities and how hearing people can improve the quality of life of deaf people.

Deaflink North East
We work with the D/deaf communities, predominantly in the north of Tyne area. We provide social and learning opportunities for BSL users and people with acquired hearing loss. We also provide support and advocacy, especially for BSL users accessing acute hospital care.
