St Anthony's Youth Education & Support

Core membership

St Anthony’s Youth Education and Support (SAYES) was established as a project of St Anthony’s Community Association in 1979 and became an independent charity in its own right in 2009. SAYES provides a community resource for children, young people and their families from Walker and the east side of Newcastle upon Tyne. Our work changes continually. Through SAYES we make contact and establish relationships - overcome exclusion - and then we develop the work as necessary and in response to the need. Critically we manage through our outreach programme to make relationships with those who are hard to reach and with the most disengaged young people in the area. In the last year alone we have delivered outcomes in the areas of improved confidence, better speaking and communication skills, improved social skills, positive health outcomes, personal achievements, education routes accessed, employment pathways gained, economic improvements, referrals to specialist support agencies and developments in emotional resilience and soft skills

St Chad’s is one of the oldest and most popular colleges in Durham. Most years, our students achieve among the highest academic results in Durham.

Established in 1904 as an independent hall with an Anglican foundation, we are now a recognised college of Durham University. With 350 undergrads and 150 postgrads, we deliberately remain a small human-sized college; but that doesn’t stop us from having the highest concentration of research staff and library resources in Durham.

St Chad’s is a progressive, liberal-minded college, where it’s okay to be yourself. Our manageable size enables us to offer personal support to all our students in a world-class research environment.
