The Comfrey Project
The Comfrey Project is a charitable organisation which promotes personal wellbeing and community integration primarily for refugees and people seeking asylum. We offer various leisure-time occupation activities with gardening being our main area of focus. Participants are encouraged to volunteer and help maintain our community garden in Gateshead and two allotments in Newcastle. Other regular activities include cooking, arts & crafts, music, language skills and more.
Our aim is to nurture a safe and welcoming environment that provides a sense of belonging, and empowers participants to build resilience, confidence, skills and support networks. We follow a highly user-led approach involving group members in all aspects of our work. We strive not to be a service that is offered to people, but one that is being built and delivered in collaboration with all those we are here to serve.

The Cultural Spring
The Cultural Spring exists to make arts and culture an accepted and expected part of everyday life in Sunderland and South Tyneside.
We work in partnership with artists, community venues, and local groups to create arts and creative projects that are accessible, inclusive, and rooted in local voices.
Our projects don’t just offer opportunities to take part—they support local people to take ownership of creativity. We empower communities to develop, direct and create work themselves, becoming the creators, artists and decision-makers who shape culture in their own communities. This meaningful engagement in the arts has a powerful impact—building confidence, strengthening social connections, and improving mental health and wellbeing.
The Customs House Trust Ltd
The Customs House offers arts and entertainment for all, serving the residents of South Tyneside and beyond with a varied programme of live performance, cinema, visual arts and projects for children and young people.

The Forgotten Boys CIC
The Forgotten Boys is a support network committed to helping men who have suffered abuse, sexual exploitation, and torture within the UK Borstal System. Our mission is to assist these individuals in overcoming their past trauma and leading fulfilling lives. We also extend our support to men who have experienced sexual violence as adults.
Our services include comprehensive advocacy and therapy, designed to address the specific challenges faced by these men. Many have been let down by services intended to protect them, making it difficult for them to trust organisations with connections to their past trauma. Our holistic approach integrates Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and other positive activities, and we also provide pathways to employment, education, training, and legal representation.
