Refugee Futures
Refugee Futures works together with other people and organisations to create opportunities that enable refugees and people seeking asylum to:
Feel welcome and able to find their way around Stockton-on-Tees, the services they need and the activities and facilities that are available for them to enjoy.
Be useful and involved in the community while they are seeking asylum, by helping in Refugee Futures and other local organisations.
Be more confident about being ready for work in the UK by developing skills through training and work placements.
Be connected and included by having opportunities to meet other local people and be part of sharing accurate information about the asylum system, and positive stories about what refugees bring to Stockton-on-Tees.
We work in ways which are inclusive, reaching out to and embracing the diversity that exists within refugee and asylum-seeking communities.
REfUSE Chester-le-Street
REfUSE is an award-winning social enterprise based in Chester le Street, working towards a healthier, more sustainable food system. We intercept around 8 tonnes of food per month that would otherwise go to waste and turn it into healthy, accessible meals, served on a “Pay as You Feel” basis at our volunteer-run community cafe. With a community of over 150 volunteers, we run regular restaurant nights, sell Waste Not Box food hampers, and run education and engagement projects including our Eat Smart programme which engages primary school pupils in the causes of and solutions to food waste in their schools. We are raising awareness, inspiring, and empowering people towards community-led transformation of our food system in the North-East. Our vision is to reveal the true value of things, places and people that are unjustly wasted or overlooked.
