About the Organisation
FISCUS is an independent charity (registration no. 1151656) established in 2005 and based in Sunderland. FISCUS delivers a range of community support services including energy advice, crisis support, food and essential items provision, wellbeing activities, and community engagement projects. We work closely with local residents and partner organisations to reduce poverty, improve wellbeing and strengthen communities across Sunderland.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team in a brand-new role as a Community Projects Development Worker.
Role Details
Location: Coop Centre, Hendon, Sunderland and wider Sunderland
Hours: 28 – 35 hours per week (days/hours negotiable, occasional evenings/weekends)
Salary: £30,000–£32,000 per annum FTE depending on experience (pro-rata to hours worked)
Pension: 6% Employers Contributory Pension
Annual Leave: 36 Days including statutory holidays
Reports to: FISCUS CEO
Role Purpose
- Support the development and delivery of existing and new community-based projects and activities at FISCUS
- Lead on the development and delivery of planned projects including a new community café to empower women & girls and a Children’s School Holiday Lunch Initiative
- Engage service users, volunteers, local residents and community groups to increase participation and inclusion
- Help identify community needs and develop appropriate responses and initiatives
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with community partners and local organisations
Role Summary
As Community Projects Development Worker, you will support the planning, coordination and delivery of a range of community projects and engagement activities at FISCUS. You will work closely with service users, local residents, volunteers, partner organisations and the wider FISCUS team to increase community participation, reduce social isolation and improve access to support services.
The role will involve organising activities, outreach sessions, workshops and community events while supporting individuals experiencing hardship, exclusion or other challenges. You will also assist with project monitoring, promotion and identifying opportunities for future community development initiatives and funding.
Target Customers:
- Women & Girls facing barriers or vulnerabilities (main target group)
- People experiencing hardship, crisis or social isolation
- Older people aged 60+
- Young people aged 16 - 25
- BAME communities
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of new community projects and initiatives at FISCUS including a new community cafe
- Community ideas generation, outreach activities and engagement sessions
- Develop positive relationships with residents, volunteers, community groups and partner organisation
Additional Information
- DBS check is required.
- Some flexibility in working hours may occasionally be necessary.
