Training session improves LGBTQ+ awareness

Author: Nathan.Choat_VONNE

In response to the results of a staff survey, which identified LGBTQ+ awareness as an area the team wanted to learn more about, VONNE recently took part in a brilliant awareness-raising session with LGBT Advance.

Covering topics such as terminology, identity and LGBTQ+ cultural issues, the interactive two-hour session flew by as we engaged in important discussions and were encouraged to ask questions. As we head into LGBT History Month, this blog by LGBT Advance explores the variety of training sessions they offer and how you can take part in one (or more) yourself.

LGBT Advance Training and Consultancy is a fund-raising project founded in 2018 that aims to help Hart Gables CIO become financially self-sufficient. All funds raised go directly back into the charity, supporting hundreds of disadvantaged LGBTQ+ people living in the North East.

Our mission is to provide specialist training to local, national and international organisations from all sectors, in a bid to create LGBTQ+ inclusion and accessibility within their workplace.

The award winning and OCN approved training is delivered by qualified trainers with decades of lived experience and sector knowledge.

LGBT Advance offers seminars, webinars, workshops and training via virtual and face to face platforms. All training incorporates complimentary consultancy sessions to support organisations with LGBTQ+ and Transgender Inclusion Policy.

  • Webinars (50-80 delegates)
  • Face to face and virtual training sessions and workshops (20-25 delegates)
  • For larger organisations E-learning will be available from March 2022.

Our most popular training packages include ‘LGBTQ+ Awareness’ and ‘A Journey Through Transition – Exploring Gender Identity’. (Costs and additional training packages are available on our website).

LGBT Advance have already trained over 4000 delegates, ranging from operational level staff to executive and governance level.

“I came out of that session feeling more educated than I ever have been before on Gender Identities. The whole session was inspiring’’ – Nikki, Sunderland University.
