Organisation Context:
Edberts House is a well-established and thriving charity based within Gateshead. We aim to build happier, healthier, and friendlier communities. We do this through connecting people to one another, to good support and to decision makers, to influence and change the balance of power.
There are currently two main strands to our work – our Community Linking Project (Social Prescribing) and our Community Development & Engagement Team (CDE). CDE Team currently manages:
- 4 community houses - Edberts Larkspur Highfield and Pattinson House
Our Children’s Young People and Families Link Workers will be based in the East of Gateshead, however as part of the Edberts staff team the post-holder may be required to undertake some duties at other projects managed by Edberts House. The post-holder will report to the Operational Lead: Children, YP & Families Link Work, who oversees this team’s work.
This role will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
This role will be covering the role of an existing member of Edberts House staff whilst they are on secondment.
Job Purpose:
To work as part of a team, alongside the Operational Lead: Children, YP & Families Link Work and other partners to actively listen to the needs of families, find out what matters to them and provide practical hands-on support, helping to shape and influence local service provision.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- To ensure the ethos and values of Edberts House is integral to working practice.
- To complete NHS Bluestream Link Worker training.
- To offer emotional and practical support to pregnant women, parents and young families in the community. This will include supporting a caseload and helping to plan and create responses to the needs of families. Also, providing hands on practical support to families – for example, supporting before school and bedtime routines.
- To build a trusting relationship with the parents / carers and young people to help alleviate social isolation and increase capacity.
- To communicate with partners and support agencies in the best interest of the child and family.
- To support the delivery and implementation of Children, Young People and Families link work activities within Edberts House. This will include organisation, promotion and delivery of trips, one-off events and activities for families, children and adults.
- To participate in pro-actively developing partnerships with all agencies in the area to offer appropriate, accessible services for the families.
- To signpost families, and make referrals to a range of services, supporting the family to access suitable services using a ‘shoulder-to-shoulder’ approach.
- To understand safeguarding issues and escalation processes within Edberts House, and GP practices to promote the welfare of children and adults at risk.
- To participate in pro-actively monitoring and evaluating services provided – this will include active participation in any associated research projects
- Maintain accurate records of all work undertaken, the impact of the work and the footfall of the project, contributing to regular reports for Managers, Residents Groups, Open Forums, Chief Executive and Trustees. This will include ensuring accurate data is entered into Charity Log and Emis.
- To maintain accurate financial records to help manage petty cash, company card, income etc.
- To support the day-to-day running of any Edberts House community premises.
- Any other reasonable duties as required by the Operational Lead: Children, YP & Families Link Work.
