Health Promotion Practitioner – Pregnancy and Breastfeeding (Best Start) 

 

 16 hours per week  

£23,876.84 per annum (pro rata) 

Fixed term to March 2025 with a view to extend 

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated, proactive, and efficient individual to join Healthworks to work as part of the Best Start pregnancy and breastfeeding support service.  

About Us 

Healthworks is a national award-winning charity working with disadvantaged local communities to tackle health inequalities and improve their health and wellbeing through social prescribing. Based in Newcastle, but working across the region for over 27 years, our patron is Professor Michael Marmot. Our work has been recognised by a King’s Fund/GSK award for our work improving the physical and mental health of people across the North East of England.   

We work in partnership with NHS and Local Authority colleagues and communities in many sectors to devise cost effective solutions that secure sustainable health impacts for many conditions that inhibit quality of life. 

The Role 

You will;  

  • Provide information, and support around pregnancy and breastfeeding via telephone and in venues throughout the area  

  • Deliver a range of sessions across the city for mothers, babies and their families including Pregnancy Social Groups and Breastfeeding Social Groups   

  • Work alongside our partnership organisations to give every child the best start in life 

  • Sign post families to the wider Family Partner offer within the area where appropriate 

  • Support volunteer involvement, particular encouraging parents to engage with the local activities to enable them to have their say in how services are shaped and delivered. 

  • Provide relevant sessions using group work skills to encourage people to gain confidence, increase self-esteem and develop their skills 

  • Contribute to and support the programme of children and young people activities across the city

You will be an enthusiastic individual, motivated to use your skills to make a real difference for our clients and families.  You will be passionate about supporting the rights and needs for children and their families / carers.
