About the Criminal Justice Services

Changing Lives delivers a range of projects that support women involved in the Criminal Justice System. We believe that individuals become involved in the Criminal Justice System for a complex range of reasons.

Our experience has taught us that to help women stop offending and to rebuild their lives, we must address the underlying causes of crime. Our services are underpinned by an in-depth understanding of trauma and we support women to address challenges such as domestic abuse, homelessness or poor housing, helping women to develop tools to ensure that trauma in their past does not define the rest of their lives.  We know that with the right support around them, women so often are able to break the cycle of crisis and crime.

We currently deliver diversion from custody schemes, education, training and employment services, and holistic services to women serving community sentences or following release from custody. We also provide some pre-release services and have a presence across a number of women’s prisons nationally. Our criminal justice services cover Northumbria, Cleveland, South Yorkshire, West Midlands, East Midlands, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire.

About the Criminal Justice Sessional Worker

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who is passionate about making a difference in women’s lives, working alongside established teams you will gain invaluable experience of gender specific trauma informed interventions.


Sessional Workers are integral to the running of our projects, and we are currently recruiting a pool of sessional staff to work within our criminal justice teams across both Northumbria and Cleveland.  


You will work with the people we support on a day-to-day basis; coaching, supporting, and empowering them to achieve their hopes and aspirations, focusing on the future and encouraging positive steps to improving their life choices.


You will have the opportunity to work across multiple projects, learning and developing your skills and experience in what is an extremely rewarding field. This is primarily within our criminal justice teams however, there may be other opportunities available in other projects, such as our accommodation services.


You will also have the opportunity to apply for all of our vacancies; including internal only roles. You will also have access to our training programme, have a single point of contact for support and receive regular supervision.


The role includes a payment towards holiday pay.


Key Activities

Ensure all contractual training requirements are up to date and complete.


At the start of each shift; confirm the tasks and responsibilities to be undertaken.


Provide emotional and practical support to the women accessing our service.


Admin – inputting data onto system, sending appointment letters and making initial contact with women.


Facilitate group delivery across our women’s hubs in Northumbria/Cleveland.


Provide outreach support when necessary, supervised spends and support the woman to attend appointments.


Liaise with colleagues to ensure that individual’s records are maintained.


Deliver services to agreed quality standards and follow good practice protocols.


Maintain in depth and up-to-date knowledge of all Changing Lives practices and policies.


Present a professional image of Changing Lives at all times. 


Comply with all legal and health and safety requirements.


To work to the performance standards provided and requested by Changing Lives.


To carry out any other reasonable requests.
