Sunderland Counselling Service works in partnership with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to deliver Step 2 Counselling in the IAPT service in North Tyneside, known as North Tyneside Talking Therapies. The provision of counselling is one of a range of therapeutic interventions within a stepped care model which helps to ensure increased patient choice and access to services.

We have an exciting opportunity for qualified counsellors to join our organisation and established team in North Tyneside.  We have a full (37.5 hours) and a part-time (22.5 hours per week) permanent post to recruit to. The successful candidates will be paid at Agenda for Change Band 6 comparable salary (£32,306 FTE pro-rata) if accredited with the BACP or an equivalent professional body. If you are a member of the BACP or member of an equivalent professional body and are not yet accredited, you will be paid at a salary of £26,887 FTE (pro-rata).

The successful candidates will be competent qualified counsellors with significant post qualification counselling experience and will be able to work independently, and  aware of how to make use of the outcome measures required when working within an IAPT service. Experience of working within an IAPT service is ideal, or of working within a time-limited framework.

The successful counsellors will work within a six session model of counselling delivered either face to face, via video, or telephone, to adults from different cultural backgrounds and ages (using interpreters when necessary) who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health conditions that impact on their daily lives, complete assessments for new referrals, and facilitate counselling support groups.

Dependent upon ongoing restrictions in healthcare settings due to COVID-19, the post holders may be expected to take a blended approach to delivering services from the two NTTT bases in Wallsend and North Shields, and from a range of health and community venues throughout the borough of North Tyneside and also confidentially from home.
