Sunderland Counselling Service (SCS) is seeking to appoint BACP accredited (or equivalent) Counsellors who will offer counselling for clients with mild to moderate mental health concerns. We will also welcome applications from therapists working towards their accreditation.

We are seeking applications from accredited Counsellors, or those working towards accreditation, who will provide time limited therapy to adults referred to the service.  Counselling will be provided either face to face, over the phone or using a video function and adhere to session limits and models defined by the service.

The successful candidates will be qualified to Degree, MSc, MA, or Diploma level in Counselling as well as holding or working towards accreditation status from the BACP or equivalent.

We require counsellors who can work from comprehensive assessments completed by their colleagues within the IAPT service to determine with their clients their therapeutic and other support needs. The successful counsellors will demonstrate how they develop realistic treatment goals with a client and successfully encourage and support them in using the service, to enable them to address and manage the issues and associated problems that are affecting their mental and emotional wellbeing.

The Talking Changes Service operates from five bases across County Durham and Darlington.  We are particularly keen to recruit Counsellors to work in the Darlington area, however post holders will be expected to offer face to face sessions throughout the Service bases according to service requirements. Whilst restrictions regarding COVID 19 and social distancing remain in place, the post holder may be required to work confidentially from home.

These are full-time positions (37.5 hours) which will involve a minimum of one evening per week. We will also welcome applications for those who wish to work on a part-time basis.

For BACP accredited or equivalent counsellors, the salary for this post is equivalent to a Band 6 agenda for change.  For those working towards accreditation, we will offer a salary equivalent to a mid-point Band 5 agenda for change which is currently £27,780.

For further information on the post and to download an application pack, please visit  All applications for this post must be submitted by 11.59pm on Sunday, 26th June.  Unfortunately those received after this time will not be considered.
