Keeping in Touch (KIT) Worker
1 year fixed term contract
25 hours per week - £18,164 pa (pro rata) plus pension and excellent holidays
We seek an organised, self-motivated and compassionate individual to deliver a quality befriending service to vulnerable older people, reducing the negative impact of loneliness and isolation. The post holder will be responsible for implementing activities to support the older people’s wellbeing.

Job Purpose
To deliver a quality befriending service to vulnerable older people, reducing the negative impact of loneliness and isolation. Implementing activities to support older peoples’ wellbeing.
Job Description
To be a befriender to older people and undertake all reasonable activities identified.
Engage with older people and converse on a variety of topics
To support older people’s emotional wellbeing.
Liaise and co-operate with carers and share information as required
Report immediately, changes in service users’ health, abilities or circumstances to the manager.
Identify potential extra support needs to the line manager
Signpost to relevant support services including AUKS and partner services
Provide information on AUKS activities and services where appropriate
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of the work undertaken
Abide by and implement all policies and procedures of AUKS, including being aware of and responsible corporately and as an individual for Health & Safety policy
To ensure adherence to GDPR principles at all times
Act as a Safeguarding Adults Alerter

A befriender will not be asked to meet any personal care needs
Undertake all reasonable tasks, in keeping with the level of responsibility of the post, as requested by the line manager/Director.

Essential Criteria
Good understanding of the needs of older people
Be able to communicate effectively with older people, colleagues and partners.
Be able to work to an agreed timetable of home/community visits
Have ability to keep basic records
Ability to work alone with the minimum of supervision
A caring, sympathetic, sensitive manner and a non-judgemental approach.
Reliable/dependable/flexible
Understanding of confidentiality
Commitment to understanding the needs of vulnerable older people
Demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic approach
Willingness to help raise self -esteem/confidence through a positive befriending relationship.
Possess a full, clean driving licence and have access to a car for work
