Regional Spatial Strategy

Regional Spatial Strategy -  A brief overview

On 15 July 2008, the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) published the final version of the North East of England Regional Spatial Strategy.

The Regional Spatial Strategy determines how much development will take place in the region between now and 2021 and where that will happen. The RSS has been given statutory status which will mean that other plans, strategies and programmes will have to fit in with what it says. It covers Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, and the Tees Valley. This will remain live until the Integrated Regional Strategy is produced.
